Lightning - This book tells the story behind the Picasso of India, M.F. Husain’s most iconic work. Famously known to have been the backdrop of Indira Gandhi’s Emergency speech in 1975. As one of M.F. Husain’s most historic works, the topics in the painting include reproductive rights, shifts in the agricultural industry, and war, to name a few. Filled with thought-provoking essays and memoirs to walk you through the journey.
This book was published in conjunction with the exhibition of M.F. Husain: Art and the Nation at Asia Society Museum of New York, March 20th through August 4th 2019 and part of the Progressive Revolution: Modern Art for New India and the Triennial 2019. The painting served as the entire exhibition due to its immense and iconic nature. You can also find the late Boon Hui Tan’s essay about the Progressives Artist Group and the mural Lightning. This book is the second of its two editions.
